proud to be an american

we are spending our first ever 4th of july in the city today.
after living here for 6 years, we've never actually spent this day in san francisco.
I already know we are going to love it!

a party.

last week ashley had an awesome 2nd birthday party for copper.  She planned a whole train themed party: complete with adorable invites, favors and a trip to a local steam train for all the guests....
to bad she discovered the week before the party that cooper HATES trains. oh well!
coopers face the moment he heard the first train whistle

 he was so terrified that he and dusty 'sat out' the train ride
happier passengers!

i love her

la boulange {r.i.p}

almost 7 years ago when my aunt barbara and I came to san francisco to check out apartments for my upcoming move, we happened upon la boulange bakery on union street....and ever sense it has been a staple in my SF life.
two weeks ago when we heard the {somewhat devastating} news that they had been bought by starbucks...we rushed right off to our favorite location in order to soak in as much as we could before it becomes part of the corporate coffee empire.

the good news?  starting next year, all your local starbucks will be selling la boulange baked goods - instead of the less the appealing stuff they sell now {yay!}  in the meantime we will be eating as much la boulange as we can get...and will most likely force you to eat there if you come and visit!

off the grid.

in an effort to break our boring dinner habits last thursday we finally hit up one of 'off the grid's' newest locations. for those of you not living in the bay area you are probably unfamiliar with 'off the grid.'  'off the grid' is an organization in charge of wrangling all the san francisco food trucks into convenient/interesting locations across the city...they are also responsible for the local music gracing the events!

really, the only problem with this entire concept is that we ALWAYS over eat.  it just all looks so good and how you could you possibly choose just one truck?
{not only did we eat at more than one truck....we also got cupcakes to go! - yikes}

 i especially love the picture of brad studying the description of 'sexy fries' at the curry up now truck.  he proceed to order them....sweet potato fries topped with mexican cheese, onions and chicken tikka masala.
